Agalope Siren

This is one in a series of three “sirens” installed along the walkway from Millennium Plaza Park to Lower Millennium Plaza Park.

Simon Toparovsky, well known in Lake Oswego’s Gallery Without Walls and our City for his art in Millennium Plaza Park such as Fortuna, The Three Graces and The Flight Of Icarus along with the actual design of Millennium Plaza Park.

In Greek mythology, the sirens were three dangerous bird women, portrayed as seductresses who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island.  All his art is inspired by and related to the Myth of Icarus.

I will post the other two sirens in upcoming posts.  All three photos were taken at the same time last December toward sunset and they having lighting to showcase them along the walkway.

Gallery Without Walls

In October 2009, I set out on a goal to photograph every piece of art and sculpture within the Gallery Without Walls in Lake Oswego.  I photographed all the rotating exhibits, the permanent art collections and People’s Choice winners from 2009 until now.  I have finally accomplished and completed that goal.

This is the last of the photographs from the Gallery Without Walls until July 2012 when an additional 15 sculptures will be presented by the City of Lake Oswego as a part of the on-going rotating exhibit.

Age Of Iron

This sculpture called Age of Iron is part of the City of Lake Oswego’s permanent art collection. This piece of art sits on the Cline-Kinyon Corridor, a pathway in downtown Lake Oswego, dedicated to two public employees. Cline (1969) and Kinyon (1973) both retired in the early 2000s.

Tom Hardy is the artist of this sculpture who describes it as “welded metal placed in harmony” and is made of reclaimed steel.

In The Flow.allaboutlakeoswegolivingaphotoblog.com
In The Flow

I went in search on several occasions to find this art.  Then, over the holidays while showing property, I came upon it quite by accident.  Turns out I’d been looking in all the wrong places.

Stuart Jacobson, sculptor of this Gallery Without Walls art, describes it as “An abstract depiction of the Willamette Falls in Oregon City, where the first power generation facility was sited”.

In The Flow is made from basalt and sits in Glenmorrie Park in the Marylhurst neighborhood.  It is part of the City of Lake Oswego’s permanent art collection.

The Awe And Wonder

This is #19 in the Gallery Without Walls.  It is part of the City of Lake Oswego’s permanent art collection.

It is glass and the window is part of Lake View Village.  The artist Lonnie Feather says of her creation “the essence of our relationship to the universe, the awe and wonder of life”.

A Private Spot On Oswego Lake

Showing lake property recently, this was the view from a private spot on Oswego Lake that only a few homeowners have access to.

Over the holidays I took some of the last Gallery Without Wall sculptures I hadn’t taken pictures of.  In fact, there were some I frankly couldn’t find. There’s one that I had been looking for the last couple of years and came upon it by accident while I was actually showing Lake Oswego real estate and will be posting that one last as it was the most difficult for me to find.

I will be posting the remaining photos this month and I will then have completed my goal of taking pictures of all the sculptures in the newest rotating exhibit (those that will remain until July 2013), the others still in the rotating exhibit (those that will remain until July 2012), the City of Lake Oswego’s permanent art collection and all the People’s Choice Winners.

Water Water Water

I felt this sculpture entitled Water Water Water was appropriate for this time of year with our rain.  However, December 2011 was one of the driest we’ve seen in decades.

Water Water Water is located on the rear of the Fire Station in downtown Lake Oswego.

A visual ballet of the first and most basic element of the fire-fighting craft by Bruce West.  It is made of stainless steel and frankly couldn’t find it on several attempts.  When I finally looked at the City of Lake Oswego’s Walking Tour 2012 I looked for the peak of the building it could be on.  I finally found it on New Year’s day!

I can’t wait to see the new sculptures in 2012 that will be installed around July.

Supposedly at the beginning of the construction of the new Lake Grove shopping center it was supposed to be open by the holidays 2011. I don’t know if the untimely death of Mr. Zupan had anything to do with the progress and extend our condolences to the Zupan family.

However, that didn’t happen.  On New Year’s Day I took a picture of the stage it’s at.  I haven’t posted any pictures of it in a while now again.

The Lake Grove Shopping Center is getting there but still has a ways to go.  I haven’t heard what the new opening date is. For those who don’t know where it is, it is located on Boones Ferry and Bryant Roads in Lake Grove aka. Lake Oswego, Oregon 97035.

Winter Solstice 2011 In Lake Oswego

Last Day Of Fall 2011.allaboutlakeoswegolivingaphotoblog.comWinter Solstice 2011 In Lake Oswego. I took this photo on the last day of Fall in Lake Oswego.  I was at Gubanc’s Restaurant and saw the moss and leaves and felt it was very typical of Oregon.

Good Bye To Fall.  It was a beautiful one this year!
