Osprey At George Rogers Park

There are new residents at George Rogers Park if you hadn’t noticed or didn’t know about them.

A pair of Osprey have landed in Lake Oswego.  They are starting to build a nest on the light pole at the sports field in George Rogers Park.

The City of Lake Oswego along with PGE have assisted them by adding a platform.  Here’s a “press release” about the potential new neighbors.

Now, I would love to see an “osprey cam” so we can all watch their progress and keep an eye on how the family is doing.

Even the bar-b-que pits at George Rogers Park mimic the design and structure of the Historic Furnace that is there.

Old River Road Pathway

The City of Lake Oswego has a series of over 10 pathways at various parks and junctures throughout Lake Oswego that make for great walking.

It was very foggy this particular morning along the Old River Road pathway outside George Rogers Park.

This 18,400 lbs. art sculpture was recently moved to its permanent location in George Rogers Park in the Sister City area. Donated to Lake Oswego in 1964 by John Uppinghouse, it was restored, repainted and finally placed in its final location.

Swimming In The River at George Rogers Park

I took this shot on a very hot day. There weren’t as many people out as I had expected. This looks like a great swimming place on the Willamette River in Lake Oswego except that the river is treacherous and colder than you’d expect.

Fog On The Willamette River @ George Rogers Park

The other week I went walking with a friend of mine @ George Rogers Park on the Old River Road trail in Lake Oswego. It was foggy on the Willamette River, yet beautiful outside.

Oswego Landing.allaboutlakeoswegolivingaphotoblog.com

Oswego Landing

Did you know that Lake Oswego has a beach?  It sits on the Willamette River in George Rogers Park.

In 1850, Albert A. Durham made a land claim for 640 acres that included the landing and Oswego Creek. He used it to transport lumber.  Every Spring, 75-250 gypsies gathered for fortune telling, dressing colorfully, and being shrewd horse dealers.

Riverboats made regular stops at Oswego Landing for 70 years.  No dock was there just a gang plank and it was thrown down on the beach. The Junior Chamber of Commerce also conducted water ski school at Oswego Landing and there were boats for rent on Sundays.

In 1952, the 12 1/2 acre park was named for Councilman George Rogers for his contributions to the City of Lake Oswego.

Making An Entrance At George Rogers Park.allaboutlakeoswegolivingaphotoblog.comMaking an Entrance at George Rogers Park.

Of all the wonderful parks in Lake Oswego, this is my favorite one.  This grand entrance leads you down to a sandy beach on the Willamette River.  This park is the historic location of the restored furnace.  Once a series of covered bridges were in this area.  There are picnic benches with replicas of the furnace as bar-b-ques, playground, sitting areas, art, softball field, walking trails.  It’s a beautiful park.

On A Clear Day.allaboutlakeoswegolivingaphotoblog.com

On a clear day

I took this picture on a clear day.  It was a beautiful, crisp Fall day at George Rogers Park, but you’d think it was Summer as it was as clear as a whistle!

You can see the back side of the “Trillium” sculpture created by Portland artist Matt Cartwright.  It won the People’s Choice Award.  The whimsical sculpture is powder-coated steel and aluminium and is part of the City of Lake Oswego’s permanent outdoor art collection.  Art is everywhere throughout our City in the Gallery Without Walls.  There is a walking tour of the Gallery Without Walls to view the over 60 works of art in Lake Oswego.  The more I post on this site, the more art you’ll see.

At some point, I’ll take another picture of the front of the Trillium.  This day my focus was on the river.
